How to Keep Termites out of Your Home

Termites can cause a lot of damage to your home. They will eat just about anything that is soft such as wooden beams, insulation, or electrical wire coverings. To make matters worse, you won't even know that termites have invaded your home until after the damage has occurred. Therefore, it is critical to know how you can keep them from entering your home in the first place.

An easy way to keep termites out is to increase the grade of the land around your home. Termites cannot easily overcome changes in elevation, which means even a slight grade change can keep them away for good. You should also check for any sources of water that may attract termites to your home. If the ground is moist, or you have a leaking pipe inside of the home, these pests will find the water and start a colony. Once you eliminate the excess moisture, termites cannot survive, which means they will leave your home.
You should also get rid of any dead wood on your property. If you have any dead trees or notice any fallen branches near your house, you should remove them as soon as possible. If this has not been enough to eradicate termites in or near your home, the final step would be to hire an exterminator who will take steps to kill them for good, and ensure that your home doesn't sustain any more damage.
